My accountant has just told me that my corporation owes several thousand dollars in HST for 2012. Is this something that my accountant could have forseen and taken care of before our year end? My corporation is small and I'm the only employee, and normally just hand over a package of receipts, invoices, statements etc. before year end.
When asked about why I was somewhat blindsided by the news that I owed HST, my accountant replied that this year there was "more income, less expenses."
Does this sound like a pretty standard response?
Thanks in advance for any comments.
