Not knowing where we go from here; want to know what the professional process would be and not wanting huge numbers like 10001 to deal with if there is a good alternative or do you think carry on. There's a lot of typing of individual invoice numbers both by customers and us so wanting to avoid mistakes in too many digits being handled. What's your opinion?

I don't think there is a 'professional process'. It is what it is.

It most normal business, invoices just continue on as high as they can go. I am just passed the 120,000 mark after 2 years. However, I think you may be considering something like INV9985. Depending on how your accounting system is setup, it should automatically roll over to 10000 without problems. This would be the professional thing to do.

If it doesn't do this automatically, then you probably need to increase the number of digits in your invoice number (an invoice setting somewhere)

I hope that helps.

Regards.
