USA Repayment of Debits

I have a customer who wants to repay a past debit memo and use it on the same payment as a credit.
It seems that it would wash itself. Is this ethical? To pay off several invoices and put down $300 repay debit ((( on one line and put the same amount $300 as a credit?

If both the debit and credit memos are valid there is no problem to apply them together

There shouldn't be any problem if they are written off together.
