Since Quicken is not backward compatible and pre 2000 software won't run on 64 bit OSs, you give up your years of old data and the ability to search back to forever. I found a solution to import all of my old data into 2001 (running in 32 bit mode on Vista and W7) and have my old data in one instance of Quicken and my current data beginning with date of creation going forward in another instance. The old has separate categories (corp, pers, plan in my world) and the new has all categories in one place. Now the problem is you can create reports and search your old data but you can't print using Quicken print. Here is the answer.
1. open report R click on report
2. select copy (you will see no reaction)
3. R click on report again select print
4. select "Tab Delimited Disk File" L click button then OK
5. close "Create Disk File"
6. open Excel spreadsheet
7. goto A1 R click select Paste
8. the report is in the spreadsheet so format columns & save as
