USA QB pro 2012 old backup checking

Can I check a previous backup for a figure without altering the current copy?. I am suspecting that a change was accidently made to an entry in my last year file, which caused my end of year balance to change. I need to check my old backup without changing my current copy. Is this possible? I only have a single company copy of Quickbooks Pro 2012.
