Hi all, my first post, and I have a question.
I've received interest from a Public Accounting firm that would like to hire me. The problem is that I've been a town trustee for 2 years and the firm is the town's auditor. This firm provides audit services for some 25 towns in my area. Our town is a small NH town and the funds under my and the other trustees management are approx $1M. The firm has said that they cannot hire me until three years after my resignation to avoid conflict (I don't know if this is just best practice, Sarbanes, GASB, etc). The trustee position I hold is uncompensated / volunteer service. Is there any way (such as a combination of resignation as trustee, transparency, restriction from my town's accounts, etc) around this conflict of interest that is preventing me from getting a job I desperately need?
Thanks!
