Modifying Accounts

I thought I had read something about Quicken being a read-only when accessing online accounts but I can't find that statement anymore. I am concerned that since I am new to the program and exploring it's capabilities if I run the risk of accidentally modifying an ACTUAL account outside of the program itself?
