I have a client who is filing MFS. The husband has property which is acquired before marriage, so it is separately owned. For the 8958 allocation, do we to report the rental income as community (Joint income divided 50/50) for husband and wife? If so, what about depreciation? My software allocates (50/50) based on the ownership percentage but does not split the depreciation. I have done it manually by splitting the cost basis. Any comments?
