We are a married couple with dependent children currently physically residing in two states due to job and real estate issues (that is, we're not legally separated, just not in the same place.)
I think the tax situation is beyond my capacity, as reading of relevant state law and court precedents are ambiguous and there are many complicating factors (e.g. state residency of dependents for tuition purposes). As the two states (CO and NJ) are not neighbors, I'm not sure whether to look for a tax pro in Colorado or in New Jersey, as I am concerned that neither may have sufficient familiarity with the others' laws.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Liz
