I am a student in my first year of college. I am working toward an Associate in Applied Science degree in accounting. It's an accounting clerk 2-year degree. I think I would like to be a bookkeeper. If I had the time and money for a more advanced degree, I would like to do forensic accounting.

I have an assignment to do a job shadow or informational interview of a professional in accounting or business to get a better idea of careers that are available in those fields. I am only half way through my first accounting class, and am not entirely sure where I would like to go after I finish my two years in school.

Does anyone here have any advice on where or what type of business I should do this assignment with? Is there a particular type of business that has a slow enough for me not to be an inconvenience and have the opportunity to learn about things, but busy enough that there is actually activity to observe?

Thank you for your time.

Most companies will be reluctant to have you shadow them. My advice is see if you can shadow the school's accounting group and ask your teachers for help to get that as part of the class requirement. Or ask your teacher if he has contacts in the profession that he can put you in touch with to do an informational interview. Seems od that this is a requirement of the class yet the school has no resources to allow you to fulfill the requirement.
