Hi,
I have been receiving money each month from a partner that I was together with for 25 years. I was never legally married to this person but we have 2 grown children together. This person has remained legally married to his first spouse. This person received an inheritance, that all taxes were already taken from, and this is where the money that I have been receiving comes from. The state that I reside in does not recognize common law marriage, and even if it did, he is still married to first spouse from before he and I had our children.
Do I need to report this money? If so, what category should I file it under?
Thank You,
Deena
