Hey I have an educational background in economic and master in economic development and tourism management and another one in finance and audit(this degree is done in another country). I have a professional gap space since I waited to get my work permit and this is the reason for not working since I waited for my work permit. Now I am want to work in accounting knowing that I do not have any experience in the field (I do know how to use quickbook and intend on taking accounting courses in the future to meet the requirement for the CPA. I am also going to be certified in SAP FICO) My question is how do I go about looking for entry level accounting? How long does it take to be hired for an entry level accounting position ? What advise would you give me and how to go about it?

Hello Gappi,
We are in the same boat. I would suggest you take some classes for accounting. As for your CPA you have to get at least 16 accounting college classes to be able to take your exams. The job hunting will not be that easy and most of the time discouraging.

For both of you, this is actually a great time of year to find some entry level/beginning work with tax season cranking up. Places like H&R Block provide training and many smaller firms are looking for season help right now. Play your cards right and those jobs can transform into full time/full year positions.

If you're looking for private industry positions, I suggest indeed.com

Hey AGH. I would disagree with you . I am giving my CPA exams beginning of next year. And as for tax season I dont think you can gain a lot of experience. I am doing taxes now and I still feel that I am far away from my goal. So I decided to make a petition at mu current College to assist me and open a program for students who cannot find a job to work for free for small enterprises that have limited budget and cannot afford an account. Both parties have a win win situation. cheers

YMMV of course. If you're goal is to get experience in this country, tax season is an easier time than not to do so.

And, as I pointed out, indeed.com is a great resource for non tax positions as well.

I actually got the job before I enrolled in school for accounting. What I did was read books on financial accounting or you can take a udemy course in financial accounting.

I just want to start like you did. Maybe join a course and go from there. I am applying on all job websites but no one is calling. I recently got work permit and been trying for months. No luck! My resume is not getting picked up by software filter? Don’t know.

Look for courses on Udemy, Coursera, and LinkedIn! They'll help you greatly.
