USA California unemployment and Schedule C

Can I still collect unemployment if I decide to sell art online? If I file a schedule C to write off all the expenses (and right now there are only expenses ... no income) will that look like I'm self-employed (even if there's no income) and the EDD take away my benefits? I would still be able to look for work. This is just basically turning a painting hobby into an occasional income. Forget calling EDD, they are impossible to reach. Emails are returned with form answers to questions I never asked.
