USA Bank Register vs. GL Bank Account

I have a basic accounting question:

Does the Bank register always equal the Bank GL balance? Would there be any situation where the bank General Ledger Balance does not equal the Bank Register Balance, especially after reconciliation.

If the reconciliation was properly performed, the bank register will always be reconciled ( "balance", in your terms) to the gl bank balance.
