Balance sheet formula

I just need to confirm the formula. I know the formula for balance sheet is asset=liability+capital. Can I do it in other way like asset-liability=capital? Can I use the latter formula in exam?

Both expressions are equivalent, as is the third variant Assets - Equity = Debt.

Whenever you know, or are given, two of the three variables, use whichever form of the Balance Sheet Identity allows you to solve for the third.

Any variation on a=b+c can work, like -c = b - a even.
