The term we are looking at is 2030.
Many accountants will go to retrain, but like what? - financiers, financial analysts? And won't they also be replaced by artificial intelligence?
All experts say - if something can be replaced by artificial intelligence, it will be replaced.
Which professions do you think in the financial sector will not be able to be replaced by artificial intelligence?
For example, if you are an accountant, what profession will you retrain in? Again, something related to finance or a completely different field of work

Three things come to mind.

1) The shift to AI won't be instantaneous. It will be gradual. The speed of the shift is unpredictable, and it will vary for different facets of the industry. So, it's less a question of jobs being replaced by AI as it is AI changing how jobs are done. Which is to say that accountants don't need to pick a new career, they need to adapt as their chosen career evolves.

2) What these studies don't show you are the new jobs and opportunities that don't exist yet. As AI, and technology in general, improve over time new opportunities will spring up.

3) There's no telling what AI won't be able to do. The better question is what jobs will humans insist be done by humans?

I doubt AI is going to replace accountants. Accountants are mostly working on solving business issues. It also involves auditing. An AI computer can always get hacked and can always have glitches. It's not going to be error proof. I feel AI will be more used as a tool to automate tasks.

I think the way it may hurt the accounting profession is that like any technology, those of us who manage to leverage and use it well will be ahead of the game and some others may be left behind.

AI augments, not replaces, accountants. It streamlines repetitive tasks like data entry and analysis, allowing professionals to focus on higher-value activities like strategic advising and interpretation. Accountants now leverage AI as a tool to enhance efficiency and accuracy, reshaping the profession rather than eliminating it.

Think of AI as an assistant and not a replacement. Yes, it will replace some workers. Which is why it is important to learn how AI is affecting your work, how you can use it to improve / enhance your work, and what skills you will need to learn to use AI in your profession.
